Shortlisted announced for World Architecture Festival Awards.
A tree top restaurant in New Zealand, a space age high school in Los Angeles, a stunning culture complex in South Korea, an aviary inspired by Gaudi in Geneva, and Wimbledon Centre Court in London, are among the 272 building projects that have made it onto this year’s shortlist for the world’s biggest architecture contest - the World Architecture Festival (WAF) Awards.

We just received a few days ago our business cards for urbArAmA. They’re cute!
We’d like to share the process of designing and printing them.
For the reverse of the business cards we thought it would be a nice idea to have some architecture sketches. And we inmediately thought about Alvaro Carnicero, an Spanish young architect and blogger that posts his drawings at Flickr. It’s worthy to take a look at his sketches on Flickr. Thanks Álvaro for grating us permission to use some of your sketches.
We’ve used the fantastic online printer service Moo. If you don not know it yet we strongly recommend you to take a look and give it a try.
This has been the result:

Compete, contemplate, learn and network at World Architecture Festival
World Architecture Festival comprises the world’s largest architectural awards programme. The nature in which the shortlisted compete is truly unique. Each shortlisted individual presents in front of an audience of their peers and the world’s most renowned expert architects such as Raphael Vinoly, Sou Fujimoto, Lorenzo Apicella, Sir Peter Cook and Kengo Kuma. The event is fiercely competitive and highly pressured but incredibly exhilarating for festival attendees to watch.

For now, maybe all of us already know that architect Peter Zumthor won the Pritzker Architecture Prize 2009.

The photos of the project we’re publishing now at urbArAmA about Zumthor’s work do not represent a complete catalogue of the Laureate’s work, but rather a small sampling. All photographs are accompanied by descriptive comments in Peter Zumthor’s own words of the projects shown.

We’ve been quite busy these last two weeks at urbArAmA releasing some improvements to the site.

The new Project Page
In first place we released a new project page two weeks ago. We’ve moved the thumbnails pictures to the left so there’s always a big and nice photograph on top of the page. Before, if a project had a lot of pictures you’d need to scroll to see the picture in full. There’s no need for scrolling now. As a side effect the usability of the page has improved too. Images appear again at the bottom of every project and a gallery image pops up if you click on them. We believe it’s important to use images whenever it’s possible.
In second place we released a new search engine last weekend. Clearly, the search engine we were (Google Sites) had very poor results. The new search engine (Sphinx) is much powerful and displays project images along the results. Try it!
Finally, there have been some improvements in the back office. You won’t see them anywhere but you should notice it. urbArAmA is faster now.
We hope you like the changes and we’ll love to hear from you. Any idea? Any must have feature we’re missing?
Happy Eastern!

Our friends from 3LDH just sent us their latest project, the K House located in Zagreb, Croacia.

Family house K is situated on a large residential plot on a moderate eastern-facing slope at the edge of a forest near the base of Sljeme hill. By placing the object next to the street in the north-western corner of the plot, preference was given to a beautiful forest view; the uneven terrain was used as a means of developing the object’s volume.
